Clear embossing – variation on a theme

Hello!

I recently posted about a card I’d created using the lovely Sale-a-bration (SAB) free stamp set, So Very Much.  My post is here if you want to have another look.  For a class last weekend, I decided to revisit the idea, this time taking my colour inspiration from another SAB freebie, the Carried Away DSP.  The colours are Mint Macaron, Night of Navy, Peekaboo Peach, Smoky Slate and Watermelon Wonder.  I recently stocked up on the in colour re-inkers so I was good to go!  The baby wipe technique is used to create a multicoloured “inkpad” and by stamping in Versamark first, you can add the clear embossing powder, giving a real shine to the sentiment once it’s heat embossed.

This card has an extra layer – I didn’t like my Whisper white layer straight onto the Carried Away DSP pattern I’d chosen, so I added a skinny Night of Navy border between them.  It’s not obvious, but you’d notice if it wasn’t there, I think.  I chose Watermelon Wonder as the base colour – I love the combination of this with Night of Navy – it’s a real favourite.  I’m really sad that Watermelon Wonder will be retiring in June along with the rest of the 2015-2017 in colours as I’ve come to love it, but we’ll have five new in colours to play with and enjoy.  I have to admit that I really hadn’t taken to one of the colours we got last year – Peekaboo Peach – and this is the first card I’ve made that uses it.  But I really like the effect it’s added to my colour mix on this card.  So much so that I used it even more obviously in another card, which I’ll share another time.

Don’t forget that we are in the last days of Sale-a-bration now!  You only have until 31st March to grab one of these limited edition freebies.  Some things will start to be unavailable – glimmer paper is already sold out in the US, so if you want something specific, don’t delay.

If you want to place an order please just click on the “Shop with Me” button to the right and don’t forget to use the host code – UDS3QBUK – if your order is less than £150 to receive an extra gift from me.  Over £150 don’t use it as you’ll get the rewards to spend and you’ll still get the gift from me.  As an additional SAB incentive, if you are intending to place a large order, you will receive an additional £20 in host rewards if your order is £200 or more.

If you have a really long wish list (I know I did!) then consider signing up as a demo and joining my team.  It’s a great deal – choose £130’s worth of products, pay £99 and no P&P and during SAB you also get to choose two additional stamp sets absolutely free!  If you are interested and want my help  choosing your starter kit, just get in touch.  If you know what you want click on the “Join my team” button on the right and get started.

I hope you liked today’s card and techniques.  See you on Friday for my last post highlighting Sale-a-bration.

Beautiful You Birthday

Hello!

I’m a bit late, but it *is* still Wednesday, so I call that a result!

Today I’m showing another quick and easy, clean and simple card that I created for my recent new catalogue and Sale-a-bration launch parties.  It uses the gorgeous “Beautiful You” set that I loved the moment I saw it – I was lucky enough to win a set at the last OnStage event in November.  This is a really versatile stamp set that lends itself to watercolouring, pencils, paper piecing, you name it!  And it’s all over demo’s blogs and Pinterest boards.  Here’s the one layer design I came up with:

Beautiful You, Clean and Simple, Monochrome, Birthday

I also wanted to show that creating a card doesn’t need lots of things – this is a one layer card using one stamp set and one ink colour.

I used the stamp-a-majig to line up my three ladies and to position my sentiment.  When I filled in the rightmost image I stamped off the Elegant Eggplant once for a contrast.

When I was demonstrating this card at one of my launch parties, I forgot to stamp off once, so I stamped the middle image to demonstrate how the stamped off image would look and the next version of the card was born – this is in Watermelon Wonder:

Beautiful You, Birthday, Monochrome, Clean & Simple

One of my attendees went one step further as she like it so much and also stamped the final image.

Simple but effective, I thought.  Hope you like it!  See you at the weekend.

Jolly Hat Christmas

Hello!

I love the card I’m showing you today but it came about by accident. Last week I held a couple of stamp-a-stack classes and one of the designs was two Santa hats punched out if glimmer paper, with a sentiment, all in a row. When I was demonstrating the card I managed to splodge ink on the card, so I couldn’t complete the design as planned. I ended up with one hat and the sentiment offset on one side of the card. And I really liked it. A lot. More than my original design!  So here it is:

The base is thick Whisper White and the Santa hat is made out of glimmer paper. The best glue here is glue dots. I rolled them up to make them smaller. Stampin’ Up! have a wonderful range of glues and they have different strengths. Glue dots are pretty much the only thing that will stick glimmer paper, as far as I know. The sentiment from Greetings from Santa is stamped in Real Red. And that’s it!  Simple but elegant, I thought. And a good card to mass produce.

I’m entering this card in the current Casology challenge – the cue word is “Space”.

Hope you like it!  See you on Tuesday.

Twinkle Tree Christmas

Hello!

I have another card from the weekend’s stamp-a-stack to share with you today. I mentioned recently that heat embossing, especially with metallics is one of the things that drew me to sign up with Stampin’ Up!.  I’m not the only one – people just love watching the dull powder suddenly transform into a shiny metallic image.  So no real surprise that people loved this card:

Twinkle Trees, FLuury of Wishes, Christmas, Clean & Simple, Embossing

The tree and the ornaments are from the Twinkle Trees set (photopolymer, Autumn/Winter catalogue).  The outline is stamped in Emerald Envy, the tinsel is in Real Red and the baubles are heat embossed in gold.  The sentiment (pretty much my all time favourite Christmas sentiment) is from Flurry of Wishes and is stamped in Real Red.  My card base is Emerald Envy and I have a Real Red skinny border around the Whisper White top layer.  I love this combination of colours for Christmas, hope you do too!

See you on Thursday for CAS Colours & Sketches – there’s still time to enter this week’s challenge!

Totally Christmas Trees

Hello!

Yesterday I ran my first craft retreat, with my lovely friend and upline, Eimear.  It was a particularly suitable day for it – World Card Marking Day.  We had a great day, with 11 lovely ladies who were brilliant to spend time with.  We shared the teaching responsibilities along with everything else, and I ran the Christmas stamp-a-stack session in the afternoon. We made 16 cards, four each of four designs.  Today I thought I’d show you the first card we made, a simple one layer card.  I got my inspiration from my recent Design Team card for CAS Colours & Sketches and was thrilled how it turned out:

Totally Trees, Star of Light, Clean & Simple, Christmas

I curved the ground stamp to form a hill and stamped it in Emerald Envy.  The trees are stamped in Archival Basic Black and the pine tree is filled in with Emerald Envy, stamped off once.  I re-made this card last weekend and didn’t stamp it off, but stamped it full strength.  I think I preferred the stronger look – have a go and see what you think.  The sentiment is from the Star of Light stamp set (Autumn Winter catalogue) and is stamped in Real Red.  We finished it off with a gold star, from the Metallic Enamel Shapes (Annual Catalogue).  Bling is always good!

If you’d like to join us on our next retreat the date is already set – Saturday 4th March. Save the date and come along!

See you on Tuesday.

Shine, Star of Light

Hello!

A quick and easy one layer Christmas card from me today.  I really love the Star of Light stampset, but so far haven’t used it much.  I especially like the “swoosh” of dots and stars that is one of the larger stamps in the set.  I decided to let that be the focus – when I planned this in my head I thought I’d add more stars but I didn’t think it needed it.  I added “Shine” as it seemed an appropriate sentiment and that was it!  It’s all heat embossed in silver on a base of Shimmery White cardstock.

Hope you like it!  See you on Thursday for CAS Colours & Sketches.

Clean and Simple Vertical Greetings

Hello!

I went through a phase of using Vertical Greetings a lot, a few weeks back – you may have thought I’d shown you everything I created, but I kept one back to surprise you with!  This is one of the simplest and cleanest cards I’ve made, but I love it!

Vertical Greetings, Thank you, CAS, Clean & Simple

It’s a one layer card in thick Whisper White and it has a lot of space!  But it works for me.  I used my Stampin’ Write markers in Island Indigo, Chocolate Chip and Real Red to colour in the stamp, huffed on it and then stamped. I did use the stamp-a-ma-jig to help with placement.  And here’s the inside:

Vertical Greetings, Thank you, CAS, Clean & Simple

I love this set, hope you do too!  If you want to buy any of the supplies, click on the “Shop with me” button and use host code 2ZW9ECQZ to be sure of an extra thank you from me!

See you on Thursday for CAS Colours and Sketches.
