You wonderful thing for CAS Colours & Sketches

Hello!

It’s a colour challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches this week and I’ve continued the retiring in-colours theme:

CC&S color174-001

I saved my favourites for last and added metallic silver for a pop – I think they work well as a combination.  I’m really sorry that these will have retired before copper officially makes it into the Stampin’ Up! colour range – we have all sorts of goodies coming in copper and I’m really looking forward to it.  Look out for a sneak peak in the blog hop on Saturday 28th May, if not before!

So, on to today’s card.  I didn’t have a clear idea of where I was going when I started this card.  I’ve been thinking about the colours for while, but hadn’t come up with a particular idea.  So I looked through my stampsets until an idea came.

CC&S #174, Suite Sayings, Retiring In-Colours, Heat embossing

I decided to use the “You Wonderful Thing You” stamp from the Suite Sayings stampset and decided I wanted to emphasize the “Wonderful” by repeating it.  There are plenty of ways to do this – masking the stamp so it doesn’t all mark up, masking where you are stamping etc., but I decided I wanted actual strips of one colour layered onto another.  And yes, I deliberately made sure they weren’t lining up!  I stamped the whole sentiment in Lost Lagoon and Blackberry Bliss on pieces of Whisper White , then in Versamark, added silver embossing powder and let loose with the heat gun – I *love* heat embossing and the metallics are especially effective!  I also stamped the sentiment on Lost Lagoon and clear embossed it.  I used the trimmer to separate the sentiment lines and tidied up the ends with my paper snips.  Then I played around until I had a colour combination I liked.  I added the Lost Lagoon to emphasise the “you”.

I’m really pleased with how this came out – hope you like it!  We love to see what people create, so play along with us and enter your card in the gallery.
