Today’s card is my Design Team card for the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge #156, which is a sketch challenge. Here’s the banner:
I can find sketch challenges somewhat, umm, challenging, so I was really pleased that when I saw this I had an idea for my card quite quickly. I did have to go through quite a few versions and tweaks but in the end I came up with a card that I love and I hope you do too!
I love square cards, don’t know why, I just do, so as soon as I saw this week’s sketch I knew my card was going to be square. I was in the mood for bold colours so I went for the Brights collection. My base is Bermuda Bay (5 inches square – again, I don’t know why, but I measure my square cards in inches), with an Oval cut out using the Oval framelit dies. I marked the centre of the card and then freehanded the die placement. To create my lines at the top and bottom of the card I stamped the lines from Botanical Blooms in Bermuda Bay, deliberately being not too hung up on perfection. I used the Botanical Blooms framelit dies to cut out the little flower in Melon Mambo and also stamped the Dream Big from Enjoy the Little Things in Melon Mambo. I cut the white oval out using the same sized oval die as before with the next size up to create a border to the aperture. Finally I put it all together with tombow. Here’s a side view:
Our job on the Design Team is to provide inspiration to the people taking on the weekly challenges. If you like my card or the challenge banner, why not come and join us and enter? I find that challenges can really stretch you as a cardmaker and it’s so exciting when you come up with something completely different that you know is only because you tried the challenge. Also, ok I’m shallow, it’s pretty exciting when you get nominated as a winner. But seriously, the best bit is designing a card you love that you feel proud of. So come on, what are you waiting for?!
