CAS Colours & Sketches challenge #155

I am very excited to present my first card as part of the Design Team for CAS Colours & Sketches!  I am doing a happy dance in my head (not on my feet as I’ve hurt my ankle)!  Recently I didn’t seem to have the right opportunity to announce my exciting news and even better is that my sister Liz (her blog is here) was also asked to join.  Squeeeeeak!

This week’s challenge is a colour challenge.  I love this week’s colours, although did find them a bit challenging to start with I always seem to say that).  It’s pretty daunting being promoted to the Design Team, as all of a sudden, nothing seems good enough!  Here’s the banner:

I wanted to make a card using items from the new Spring/Summer catalogue (it went live on Tuesday – have you checked it out yet?  If not there are links to it and the Sale-a-bration brochure to the right) and to start with didn’t think that I could use the “Botanical Blooms” stamp set.  Not exactly leafy/flowery colours, are they?  And then I decided I could – they are my leaves after all.  And here’s what I came up with:

My card base is Smoky Slate, with a skinny mat of Marina Mist bordering Whisper White.  I stamped the leaf in Pool Party twice and then once in Marina Mist.  I stamped “celebrate today” from the “Enjoy the Little Things” stamp set.  I tried this card originally just stamping the leaf detail in Smoky Slate ink, but it was a bit dull and flat.  Fortunately I remembered that I have Smoky Slate heat embossing powder, although it’s sadly retired now.  You could use clear for a slightly different but still great effect.

So, my first card as a Design Team member!  Hope you like it.

  1. Remembering back to a year ago, making my first DT card for CC&S was such a big deal. I have had a few along the way that I didn’t really want to showcase as DT cards because I didn’t think they were good enough but occasionally I simply run out of time to make anything else and a card, any card is better than no card! Your card is great! Your leaves are your leaves as you say and sometimes it’s nice to try unusual colourways and bring a fresh look to a stamp. Stef x
