Stampin’ Creative October blog hop

Welcome to the Stampin’ Creative blog hop.  If you’ve come from the wonderful Eimear or started here, a very warm welcome to you.  This month’s topic is “Fancy Folds”.  Now I’ll be honest, when this choice was made, my heart sank – I am not a fancy folds kind of gal! I’ve come to realise that what I like making best is cards.  But I do like boxes and enjoy using the punch boards and dies that Stampin’ Up! provide.  But (don’t tell anyone), I have yet to use my Simply Scored tool and as for working out new and exciting 3D projects?  Not really.  So today was always going to be a challenge for me.  After a few false starts I decided that what I wanted to make were stars.  Specifically, stars for Christmas decorations.  As ever, the internet and more specifically YouTube came to the rescue.  The link to the instructions I used is here:

They are really clear, except for when it comes to putting the two pieces together.  I got it wrong but love how mine turned out, so I’m not going to admit what I did differently – if you look at the image at the start of the video you’ll see how my stars are different.

I made three different sizes of stars – as the paper measurements were mentioned in inches on the video, that’s what I ended up absently mindedly following (like square cards, it just seemed easier in inches).  The largest card uses strips of DSP 12 inches by half an inch wide, the middle was 9 inches by 3/8 inch and the smallest was 6 inches by a quarter inch.  All three stars were made using Merry Moments DSP from the annual catalogue.

These probably look fiddly but they really weren’t.  And although the number of folds was small, I’m hoping you’ll think these are fancy!

A World of Thanks

We had a team night last week – my upline Eimear gets us all together for a chat, tea, cake or cheese & biscuits, a few make and takes and a challenge. I volunteered to do one of the make and takes this time and after thinking I’d make a Christmas card came up with something completely different. Strange how that happens!  This is the card:

The technique is called “emboss-resist” and it’s easy and effective. My card base is half A4 Blackberry Bliss, scored and folded on the short side, the mat is Delightful Dijon and the top mat is Very Vanilla. I used the embossing buddy all over the Very Vanilla and then stamped the World of Thanks stamp in Versamark.  I heat embossed it in clear and then sponged over it using Tip Top Taupe (a small amount – it added real warmth to the other colours), Delightful Dijon and Blackberry Bliss.  Although I went from one corner to the other is would look great in a more symmetrical pattern as well.

The team liked it, Eimear was pleased and I have to admit, I loved it. Hope you do too!
